Rein Dool* (Leiden, February 1933) is a Dutch artist who makes paintings, sculptures and ceramics. In 1958 he won the second prize of the Van Collem Fund and in 1989 he received the Jeanne Oosting Prize for his watercolors. Dool was educated at the Amsterdam Graphic School. He learned to draw figures at the Leiden painting society Ars Aemula Naturae, of which he was a member. From the 1980s, he increasingly worked with gouache and watercolor, and his work was increasingly characterized by simplification and stylization. Form and color have since become more important in his work than recognizable images.

In 1979 he was appointed teacher of drawing and lithography (later also painting) at the Art Academy in 's-Hertogenbosch. He worked at the European Ceramic Work Center in 's-Hertogenbosch, among other places, and was a teacher at the Royal Academy of Art and Design in that city between 1979 and 1989. Rein Dool has exhibited in various Dutch galleries and museums since the 1950s. The Literary Museum in The Hague bought part of the series of portraits painted by Dool of writer friends. This series includes portraits by Maarten 't Hart, Maarten Biesheuvel and Ed Leeflang.
